Our Team's Timeline

114

1956

Our proud history began decades ago with Jones, Kreeger & Co., a brokerage firm based in Washington, DC. Norman Schrott became the original manager of the Alexandria Branch in 1956, with A.G. Edwards & Sons acquiring the firm in 1969.

1980s

The branch enjoyed steady growth over the years, with Norman making two pivotal additions: Frank Key, Executive Vice President – Wealth Advisor, in 1981 and Ted Dicken in 1985.

1990s

In 1995, Norman stepped away from managerial duties to focus solely on his clients. Frank assumed the role of branch manager in his place.

2000

Ryan Sprowls, President & CEO, left the A.G. Edwards corporate headquarters in St. Louis to work with Norman at the Alexandria branch. As Norman gradually exited his career, Ryan and Ted took over the practice.

2010

Frank stepped down from his management role to focus on his clients and partner with Ryan and Ted. This began the Sprowls, Dicken & Key Wealth Management Group.

2019

Ellen Cleary was welcomed into the practice after spending most of her career providing trusted advice to her clients at Morgan Stanley.

2020

Chuck Markson, Executive Vice President – Wealth Advisor, joined the practice, bringing over 35 years of experience and the highest level of personal service infused with professional integrity. Ellen retired in 2023 and joined a nonprofit that promotes financial literacy education for low-income families.

2023

Phil Bartilucci , Wealth Advisor, started his career in the Alexandria office in 2016 and after spending several years as an advisor, he came back to join our team in 2023.

2025
&
Beyond

Mirroring our clients’ desire for independence, our practice transitioned to Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network, while adding Andy Strobel, Executive Vice President – Wealth Advisor, Jon Ustun, Senior Vice President – Wealth Advisor, and Ryan Bortner, Managing Principal & COO.

We believe this allows us to be more agile and responsive to our client's needs while accessing some of the latest technology and research to catalyze what's possible. From brand new relationships to those spanning more than five generations, we are resolute in our commitment to serving our clients to the very best of our abilities.
